We all strive to become the best self we can be, but what does that even mean, and is it different for each one of us?

It means being and doing your very best every day. For example, if you give 100% of how you show up and feel, that is the best you can do. Not every day will feel amazing, but if you give all you got, there’s nothing you’ll regret. This applies to all areas of your life, whether it be personally, professionally, or spiritually, always do your best. And, it’s up to you and your definition of giving 100%, showing up and being present.

Personally

Self-awareness is vital to the process of personal development. When we are aware of who and what we are, we’re able to see things differently.  We’re able to act out of a place of love and understanding instead of reacting out of a place of emotional or critical fear. Most importantly, we are more compassionate with ourselves through the practice of self-love. When we love ourselves, we have more love to give to others and so on.

Professionally

To be our best selves in our professional life, we must be passionate about what we do! If we find ourselves stuck in a “dead-end job” and feel that we don’t add value, aren’t appreciated for our efforts or are just absolutely miserable, it’s time to get out! Life is way too short to be “stuck.” We have the choice and power to live life to the fullest and do what we love. It’s on us!  Live life with passion and purpose!

Spiritually

Spirituality is often a touchy subjective depending on your belief system. However, it is important to understand your purpose, be grateful and live a life of serving others. We live in a society where the focus is constantly on “self” which is synonymous with suffering. When the focus shifts from what we have to get to what we have to give, life becomes freer.

Trust in your ability to know what’s important (purpose) to you and what is essential in your life. You’ll become more fulfilled by listening to your soul (spiritual compass) when something doesn’t feel right.  Changing your activities and behaviors can lead to becoming your best self.

Mindful living and gratitude lead to inner peace and acceptance.

Social Connection

We all want to feel safe, secure, heard and understood in our community and relationships but we must be wise in selecting the company we keep. Having a great support network is critical to the success of your own inner growth. If a positive environment surrounds you, you will thrive. If the opposite, you will continue to play small at the mercy of others.

Hard Work and Setting Goals

Start out by setting realistic, achievable and maintainable goals, whether it be a fitness goal (i.e., running a 5K) or work (i.e., promotion), or perhaps something to ignites your soul (i.e., volunteer).

Ask yourself where you want to be in your life, and what’s it going to take to get there then close the “gap” by defining which steps you need to take to make those goals a reality. Stick to those steps. Achieving each step fills you with pride and confidence making the goal real and achievable.

Overall Health & Wellness

If we feel good physically and mentally, we’ll have energy and enough sleep which means we’re able to cope better with things like stress and anxiety.

Be sure to make physical activity a part of your day and your life. Whether it be walking, running, weight training, yoga, whatever moves your body and mind. What you do is up to you as long as you get up and move!

Having a positive mindset will set the foundation to achieving your best self. Practice mindfulness and gratitude, it will change your attitude.

Strive for progress, not perfection. Throughout life, we will stumble and fall, but it’s up to you to get back up. Ask yourself, what did you learn from this lesson and how will you grow? Life is a journey, be patient and always do your best.

Remember, you are the author of your life. Create your own story!
